Jason sent this out to his mailing list.

If you wonder why we like Jason so much it's because he's just such a good guy.

I just wanted to let you know that my friend Tim Grimm is doing a house concert in San Antonio this Sunday. I have played on several of Tim’s record, and we made a record together called “Amber Waves” a few years ago. If you’re not familiar with Tim’s music yet, I think you’ll really like him. If you already know his music, then you probably already know you like him!

Anyway, you can find more info about the show here: http://www.sundayhouseconcert.blogspot.com/

Tim is an interesting guy. In addition to being an excellent singer-songwriter, he is also an accomplished actor. You may have even seen him in some big Hollywood movies over the years. To hear some of Tim’s music and find out more about him, visit: www.timgrimm.com.

If you have any questions or comments, you are welcome to send me a reply.

Best Wishes,
Jason Wilber

Some excerpts from a very nice email today.

If anyone would like to be on Tom's list, let me know and I'll give you the info on how to get in touch with him. I sent him an email thanking him on on behalf of all of us for his kind words. We're meeting a lot of people who are into the house concert thing and, like Tom, they are all being very supportive.

Dear John,

I had a chance to visit with Tim Grimm last weekend, riding up and back from Houston to the Bugle boy with him and Mike Lindaur. He told me about the show in San Antonio. I started looking around and found the blogspot. I'd like to wish out some good luck with the show and tell what you already know, that it will be a wonderful and memorable occasion.

I'm in my fifth season of hosting a regular house concert series in Houston, and in about my 25th year of having concerts irregularly in my home. I try to keep in touch occasionally with just about everyone in Texas who hosts home-based music. If there is an outgoing email list for the shows, I'd like to be added. I haven't added you to our list, but will if you like.I'd love to learn more about these San Antonio Sunday shows. If there is an outgoing email list for the shows, I'd like to be added. I haven't added you to our list, but will if you like.

5 Days And Counting.....

Tim Grimm is playing at this coffeehouse in Dallas on Friday. They had a nice blurb that I thought I'd cut and paste in here for people to read. Please email your RSVPs in, we have room that we need to fill.

Wearing “Year’s Best of” crowns for “Folk Album”, “Folk Song” and “Songwriter” brings deserved national recognition to Tim, Americana’s finest songwriter. Family roots are thematic in Tim’s optimistic and evocative story songs of remembrance and in his achingly beautiful romantic songs written with a gentle hand. Woody Guthrie’s spirit is evident in Tim’s no-nonsense edgy songs of social/political commentary, while TR Ritchie’s witty observations of daily life are recalled in Tim’s down-home ruminations. To further comparison, think of the honesty in the voices of Ray Wylie Hubbard and Greg Brown. Mike Lindauer will accompany on bass. Icing on our cake!

I'm getting emails....

about what food to bring. I love it. Doesn't it really always boil down to the food? We can't really co-ordinate but we've never had a problem with too much of one thing so just bring what comes to mind.

The basic deal is, please bring a covered dish for the feast. A main dish, a sidedish or a dessert. If you cook, showoff your favorite creation. If you don't cook, drive through Bill Millers. :)

But we eat like Kings at these house concerts so please bring something for the table and come hungry. A big ol' plate full of food is a great thing to have in front of you on a Sunday afternoon.

Take a second

and listen to this. The interviewer is our friend Jason Wilber who was so incredible at our last house concert and the interviewee (is that right?) is our newest friend, Tim Grimm. It'll give you an idea of what a down to earth, cool guy Tim is. If you liked that short piece, you can listen to both complete segments of the interview and all the other Jason Wilber "In Search Of A Song" podcasts here. We really love what Jason has done with his Internet radio show. I bet Tim will have some stories to tell on Jason. I think we should try to dig some out of him on Sunday.

The concert is this week!

This Sunday at 2:00. We need more people to RSVP!!

email johnwhipple@gmail.com to RSVP or to get any questions answered.

I got this email from Tim this morning:

Hi Folks -

Looking forward to Sunday's Concert. Been in Texas the last several days and had good shows in La Grange and Houston and done some radio. My good friend Jason Wilber said what a great show he had with all of you-- so, I'm really looking forward to it! I'm coming in with my bass player, Mike Lindauer... The audiences are so great in Texas -- looking forward to playing for you!

Best Wishes,

Tim

The Tim Grimm show is just a couple of weeks away

Lots of excited feedback from the people I'm talking to. Once they experience it that first fime, people fall in love with house concerts. If you were at or heard about how incredible the Jason Wilber show was I want to say that I really think Tim's show may surprise you even more. As a matter of fact they play shows together and are of the same incredibly high songwriting standard. This is going to be another amazing experience so please come and please bring any family and friends you think may enjoy it.

We've been talking it up for months but we need to get firm RSVPs from everybody starting now. Another blast of emails are going out today to the list we've built up, please reply with a firm yes to no right away so we can tell where we're at on the attendance. Remember, this is a "word of mouth" co-op and you, as a good homegrown music citizen, are a critical part in rounding up friends to bring with you.. Those of us that are putting this on are doing it for you and we count on you to reach out to others to help it grow.

On this show we're going to use the system that Parke and I first talked about last year: you buy a CD for $15 and get to see show without any donation. Tim Grimm was very cool with that idea and it just makes it really affordable for everybody. People buy a CD and get them autographed at these events anyway and helping artists sell CDs was the idea from the beginning so..... it's just a win-win situation for everybody.

Also, we've agreed that a family only needs to spend a max of $30 to get their whole crew in. Meaning that if you have a family of five, all we ask is that two of the adults buy a CD (he has many different titles) for a total of $30. If it's one adult and several kids, just buy one CD. We want to make it affordable for everybody while at the same time getting the CDs into people's hands. It's a potluck dinner so the $15 or $30 gets you a priceless CD, an amazing living room concert and feeds you and/or your whole family. Any one of those three things has gotta be worth $30. Right? The new slogan should be "Such A Deal Sunday House Has For You!" :)

Another thing that we ask is that you buy a CD from the opening act if you can swing it. At this show Parke will be opening. We know that some people already have Parke's great CD but if you don't please buy it. We are promoting Parke, Mitch Webb and The Swindles, Glenn and Kim, The Lavens and other local artists and during the course of these house concerts we ask that you support their recording efforts by buying and spreading the word about their CDs.

SO.... PLEASE don't just surprise us, RSVP for yourself and your family and try to encourage other music fans to come. We really look forward to another great afternoon with all our old and new friends and Mr. Tim Grimm.

TIM GRIMM set for the next house concert at the Hedge's place

October 22nd, 2006........ Sunday, of course. :)

We had an excellent show and a wonderful day with Jason Wilber on June 11. Here's the site from that show. What better choice than to have his friend, someone he is recommending to us, as the next guest artist. Jason told us Tim was really good and told Tim we were cool so he put us together.

A quick word on the Jason show. Those of us who knew about him had a blast watching people seeing him for the first time as they tried to wrap their minds around how good it was - there were several songwriters in the crowd with eyes wide as saucers.

Tim Grimm is another songwriter like that. He's one of the best straight up American folk music writers out there. Below here I'll paste in some of his recent recognition. I had a nice long talk with him this morning and I can tell that he's a good person. I think we're in for something really exceptional so start helping us talk it around. One easy thing to do to start to help is to forward this URL to people you know who would be interested.

We'll have a lot more to post about Tim before the concert as well as details about the San Antonio aritsts who will share the stage and be a major part of the experience.

Catching up

Things are going well with the house concert series. We've taken everybody's advice and started this blog for the series instead of starting a new one for each show. We'll keep this URL and change the stuff in the sidebar with the info on the next scheduled event.

Some of you have been following this deal for the past year but most are probably new; Parke and Donna Hedges and Jimmie and I have this concept of having house concerts with all or mostly San Antonio musicians to help them expand their fanbase and sell albums. We're trying to perfect a way to make admission be tied to the purchase of the albums. It's a work in progress.

People see music as national and global but our real responsibility is to support music in our neighborhoods. It's a lesson from what's good about Tejano. This isn't a sudden passion, a lot of our family and friends, Mitch and Glenn and everybody, have been doing things along the lines of our old bumper sticker slogan "Support Live Music In San Antonio" as best we could for decades. It's just about plugging away at it.

We've now done these Sunday House Concerts with all San Antonio artists and we've done it with a bigger headliner and both have been attended about the same. We're experimenting to see what works and what doesn't work. It is nice to have someone from the national scene for our guys to share the stage with but that's going to be the exception and not the rule. After this Tim Grimm show the next one will mostly likely again be all San Antonio artists. After that we hope to see additional shows happening at other people's houses and expand the list of San Antonio artists who want to participate.

We're not gonna be heartbroken if it doesn't expand the way we think it can, lord knows we have hundreds of other projects going on, but you know..... it's moving in the right direction.

Parke and Donna Hedges are the heroes of this deal, they've been great.
